My love and affinity for natural and softer curvature gravitated my hand to capture Banks Peninsulas' incredible landscapes. It is a part of New Zealand that we have enjoyed as a family for many years, so it's an easy place to draw inspiration from. Using these raw and beautiful compositions, I have produced a series of landscape works that are rich in texture and colour that hopefully either take you there or want to make you go!
First, I laid out the composition in black charcoal, fixed it, and then carefully painted it in bright acrylic colours to the charcoal edge of each of the painting's components. I then oil paint over the top, keeping ribbons of the bright underlay showing through to give the composition life, depth and interest synonymous with style across all my pieces.
