Collection: Battered Not Broken - Originals
These Mixed Media art pieces represent my self-reflection, my processing of grief and my journey towards resolve.
My study and inspiration are from pulling back the curtains one early dark and stormy morning seeing my reflection in the window with my beautiful bank of Japanese Anemone being relentlessly and unforgivingly punished. Each piece was sketched out in pencil, overlayed with gesso then collaged with handmade paper, French lace, Nana’s doilies and painted leaf skeletons with layers of layers of acrylic paint giving it texture, life, depth and soul.
Each fine art print will come with this poem – its title within the prose.
‘Self Portrait – I am a Japanese Anemone’
Getting up for the day
Drawing curtains before 7
Looking out
From within to out
Daunted by darkness
Being blown around
Unforgiving and relentless
Closing in
Eye of the storm
Battered not broken
Knocked and still beautiful
The good in the bad
Light in the dark
Gold in the black
Beauty in the riven
Rising above
Seeing the best
Still grateful
I am a Japanese Anemone
